Vicky Van Der Merwe

Athlete Bio:

Vicky is a product of Hoër Meisieskool Bloemhof in Stellenbosch where she proved her talent and potential by competing and excelling at a National and International level. This 4-time SA Junior Triathlon Champ and 3-time African Junior Champ represented SA at the Junior World Champs 4 times and earned provincial colours in 7 different sports. After school Vicky spent two seasons racing the Australian Triathlon circuit to gain valuable international training and competition experience, and has since raced in more than 40 different countries.

Vicky’s return from Australia came along with long-term injuries that hampered her progress and resulted in hip surgery in 2013. After returning from the Rio Olympic Test event at the end of 2015 she was diagnosed with glandular fever, which took much longer than anticipated to recover.  Now healthy and fully fit, Vicky is looking to make her mark as she works towards long-term goals like the Olympic Games.

Vicky has completed a LLB Law degree through UNISA and is the owner of her own business, the Stellenbosch Triathlon Squad | www.triathlonsquad.co.za The squad provides structured , coached group training sessions and programs to over 180 Athletes and has been a great success since inception in November  2014.

Vicky is also a brand ambassador for Specialized Bicycles, PUMA, Oakley, TomTom, Speedo and Elana Meyer’s Endurance academy, EnduroCad.
